The Manta is a replica of the McLaren M6GT road car that never made it to fruition due to Bruce McLaren’s untimely death during its gestation. Just two prototypes were built, but the seductive shape coupled with the success of the M6B Can Am race car captivated enthusiasts and spawned the Manta replicas in early 80s. This car was built by an engineer in California as his weekend toy. Rather than a VW flat-4 or GM V6 like most of these you will find, this car has a professionally built 355 cubic inch, 4-bolt main, Chevy TPI V8 with aluminum heads, forged pistons, roller rockers, a hot cam, ported intake, custom ceramic coated headers, Magnaflow exhaust, and an estimated 400hp. Fit and finish are downright superb on this car, and it has great details like Ferrari-style gauges, Vector aluminum wheels (295 rears), wood steering wheel, Sony CD player, and pop-open windows that are handy since most of these have sealed side windows. You have to see this car in person to fully appreciate how special it is.
