1968 brought a major body style change for Oldsmobiles 442 as well as the advent of the 442 being a stand alone model. The sleek new modern lines and new interior were accompanied under the hood by a redesigned 400 cubic inch big block V8. With the addition of a new crank and rods from the 455, the new engine had a longer stroke which noticeably broadened the torque curve making the 442 more drivable around town and even quicker to get with the program at the strip.
