Selling Your Used Car
Tips on how to sell used cars. Prepare and document your vehicle, beware of common scams, selecting advertisers, preparing yourself for the sale,
and other topics covered here.

Prepare And Document Your
Vehicle
- Do an accurate
"stock-in" of your vehicle. You may print out our Vehicle Stock
In form to help you with this task. Our form asks some of the most pertinent
questions which are relevant to your prospects. You should document
the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), Mileage (Actual, Over,
Unknown), and all vehicle options. We have found that the more
information (text and images) you reveal, the faster your vehicle will
sell.
- Once you have completed the form
you should wash or detail your vehicle so you can take some quality
digital images. As the old saying goes, "a picture is worth a
thousand words", so a dozen or so pictures will really tell the
story and eliminate most questions a potential buyer may have.
- Select advertising sources for
your vehicle. There are many ways to advertise the sale of your car,
truck, or other type of vehicle. Placing an internet ad will help
reach a greater audience than most printed forms of advertising,
although this route should not be discarded. By placing both internet
and local newspaper ads you will attract a larger audience than only placing
one type of ad. Most newspaper readers will be looking for something
local, while an internet buyer may travel hundreds or even thousands
of miles to get your $5000 vehicle that is worth $6000 in their market
area.
- Prepare yourself for the sale of
your vehicle. By reading the information contained in our Buying
Tips, you will see what is expected of you as a seller to complete
a vehicle transaction in the US. The information source is from the
FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and should be followed by both the
buyer and the seller.

Beware - Known Scams
- The Nigerian Scam
A Five Billion US$ (as of 1996, much more now) worldwide Scam which
has run since the early 1980's under Successive Governments of
Nigeria. It is also referred to as "Advance Fee Fraud",
"419 Fraud" (Four-One-Nine) after the relevant section of
the Criminal Code of Nigeria, and "The Nigerian Connection"
(mostly in Europe). However, it is usually called plain old
"419" even by the Nigerians themselves. For more information

- 419 Block List
Our website tracks and blocks much of this activity with our own
419 black list. When you sell a vehicle on our site, each visitor to
you listing will need to pass through our 419
Block List
